Trolley stop)
During our first year, we only sold our work wholesale to established
galleries, gift shops and garden centers, primarily in the Carolinas.
To be honest, we didn't have any idea how it would be received
and didn't want to fall on our face in our own community. As repeat
orders continued to come in, our confidence rose and in July 2003,
we opened our first tiny gallery carrying only our own work. Wow!
We quickly learned why we were getting repeat orders.
It became obvious we needed more space and when the larger building
next door became available in May 2004, we grabbed it. Because
of the extra room we decided to carry the work of other artisans
whose work we had seen in our customers' galleries. We have come
to know them personally and are very proud to represent such a
fine group of talented people. (Some also feature our work in their
galleries). Their works include (but are not limited to) fused
and blown glass, cast and wood sculpture, pottery, jewelry and
more. Our guidelines are simple. The work must be unusual, beautiful
and made entirely by hand in America.
Needing still more space in July 2005, we moved to a larger but
more obscure location, testing customer loyalty to the limit. Finally,
after two years of complaints about how hard we were to find, we
made a long term commitment to our current location in the heart
of downtown at the waterfront, and we have gained new customers
every day since.
If you plan to visit our area, please stop by and see us. Our
hours are adjusted seasonally, so it might be a good idea to call
ahead. Even if your visit falls outside our regular hours, we only
live a short distance away and open for visitors regularly. When
you visit, be sure to try our unbelievably comfortable hammock
chairs that are handmade in Virginia.
We look forward to meeting you! |
